A gun dispute in New Sarpy escalated into a shooting that left an 18-year-old in the hospital and a 17-year-old facing an aggravated battery charge, according to St. Charles Parish detectives. Deputies say they were called out Saturday to the 200 block of Annex Street after a report of a shooting and found the 18-year-old lying in a front yard with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim was rushed to a local hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition, authorities said.
In a Facebook post by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, investigators say the shooting started during an argument over a firearm between the victim and 17-year-old Lonzell Turley of Annex Street. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Turley and later executed a search warrant at the residence, where they report finding a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old and the 17-year-old. Turley turned himself in Sunday at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center and was booked on one count of aggravated battery while the investigation continues.
Investigation and custody details
Turley was booked into the St. Charles Parish Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona, which the sheriff’s website lists at 5061 Highway 3127. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office corrections page notes the facility processes bookings for the parish and operates around the clock. Detectives say they collected additional evidence during the search and are continuing to interview witnesses as they work to piece together what led up to the gunfire.
