A man hit by a vehicle near downtown Vallejo last Monday has died, according to police, adding to a growing list of fatal crashes in the city this year. Officers were called around 10:15 PM to the intersection of Georgia Street and Contra Costa Street, where they found the adult pedestrian suffering from major injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and died from his injuries on Tuesday.
In a Vallejo Police Department Facebook post, investigators said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers as they began piecing together what happened. Detectives collected video evidence as part of the ongoing investigation, and the department said alcohol or controlled substances do not appear to be a factor at this time. Police are withholding the victim’s name until next of kin can be formally notified. According to the post, the Solano County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the decedent, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Traffic Division or use the department’s anonymous tip line.
Investigation and local trend
The department’s post notes that this crash is one of several deadly collisions Vallejo police have already investigated this year, highlighting a grim pattern on local streets. Recent reporting has detailed other fatal incidents nearby, including a late-night wreck near Georgia Street, and a separate case in which a pedestrian died after a February crash on Sacramento Street, reported in coverage of a Sacramento Street crash that turned deadly. The string of fatalities has put fresh focus on the work of the Traffic Division, from enforcement to public outreach.
How to help investigators
Vallejo police are asking anyone who witnessed the Georgia Street collision or has relevant video to contact Officer Brad Kim of the Traffic Division at (707) 648-4329 or by email at [email protected], and to use the anonymous tip line at 1-800-488-9383, according to the Vallejo Police Department. The city’s Traffic Division page lists the division office at 111 Amador Street and provides the same non-emergency number for tips, and the Solano County Coroner’s Office, which handles death investigations for the county, is based in Fairfield. Investigators say the case remains open as detectives continue reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
