A man was pulled from beneath a vehicle near 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road in west Phoenix on Tuesday and later died at a hospital, according to police. Fire crews and officers freed him from under the car and rushed him to a nearby medical center, where he succumbed to his injuries. His name has not yet been released.

Phoenix police said officers and Phoenix Fire Department crews responded after a report of a person trapped under a vehicle in an apartment complex area. The driver remained at the scene while first responders worked and as investigators began their inquiry, according to 12 News.

"Initial information suggests the man was lying in the driveway of an apartment complex when he was hit by the vehicle," Phoenix police told 12 News. Detectives have launched an investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact Phoenix police.

Buckeye Road has seen several serious crashes in recent years, and the Phoenix Police Department's media archive lists multiple fatal-collision advisories posted by the City of Phoenix. The Lower Buckeye Road stretch between 27th and 19th Avenues is also the focus of an ongoing city project to improve lighting, sidewalks and drainage, according to the city's City of Phoenix.
