Atlanta police are turning up the heat on a nearly four-year-old murder case, once again asking for the public’s help to find out who shot and killed 26-year-old Marcus Edwards at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex in late 2020. Edwards was found at the Life at Marketplace complex on the 3300 block of Fairburn Road SW and was pronounced dead at the scene. The case is still unsolved, and investigators hope a fresh tip will finally crack it.
What Investigators Say
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, officers were called out shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2020, and found Edwards with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene, and the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the Life at Marketplace apartments on Fairburn Road SW. No suspect was identified in the immediate aftermath, and the trail has been quiet ever since.
APD Renews the Plea
FOX 5 Atlanta reports that the Atlanta Police Department is again urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the shooter. Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest, and investigators say even anonymous tips can give a stalled case new life.
Where This Fits In
The killing took place during a violent year in the city. As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted, Atlanta recorded 138 homicides in 2020, the highest total since 2003. Detectives say long-running cases like this often hinge on community memories, old surveillance video and tips that surface months or even years after the crime.
How To Share a Tip
Anyone with information is asked to contact the APD Homicide Unit at (404) 546-4235 or call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can be given anonymously and may qualify for the reward. As FOX 5 Atlanta notes, investigators are specifically asking people who lived near the Fairburn Road complex in 2020 to check any old video, photos or messages that might contain something useful, even if it seemed insignificant at the time.
