A sidewalk argument in Williamsburg spun out into a chaotic brawl Wednesday evening when a 34-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, according to police. The victim was rushed to the hospital while four men involved in the fight took off, leaving stunned neighbors and passersby watching as officers taped off the block and began gathering video and witness statements.

Surveillance video shows the dispute boiling over into a physical clash, then one man in dark clothing pulling a handgun and firing a single round as the 34-year-old appears to back away. The bullet struck the victim in the abdomen. A crime scene was established near 224 South 3rd Street just before 6:30 p.m., and police say the four suspects quickly scattered. One jumped on a moped, and they were last seen heading southbound on Havemeyer Street, as reported by News 12 Brooklyn.
Victim taken to Bellevue
Emergency Medical Services transported the wounded man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, and "he is expected to recover," police said, according to News 12 Brooklyn. Bellevue is the city’s public hospital and trauma center located at 462 First Avenue.
Police search and neighborhood context
The NYPD is investigating and has not released any suspect names or announced arrests. The shooting follows other recent violent incidents in Williamsburg, in March 2025 a man was fatally shot in broad daylight at an auto shop, a reminder that some blocks in the neighborhood still grapple with safety concerns.
