Jamaica Pon Di Road, the Acres Homes born Caribbean kitchen that turned jerk chicken and braised oxtails into neighborhood must-eats, is officially gearing up for a second, much larger home south of Houston. The owners have filed the project paperwork and are aiming to have the build-out wrapped by summer.
Permit filings outline a summer finish line
Project details registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation put the new Jamaica Pon Di Road at 3434 FM 1092 Rd, Suite 200, inside the Township shopping complex. The filing lists a May 1 construction start and a July 31 completion target, along with an estimated $150,000 renovation budget for a 4,290-square-foot interior remodel plus exterior work that includes a canopy and fenced area, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
What is coming to the bigger space
The team says the Missouri City spot will carry over the hits that turned its bright-blue Acres Homes cottage into a destination, including jerk chicken, oxtail egg rolls and sweet drunken plantains, and will bring those flavors to a much larger footprint, per Jamaica Pon Di Road. Owner Gareth "Chef G" Powell has grown the brand from a food truck into a brick-and-mortar neighborhood staple over the last several years.
Township location aims for suburban crowd
The filing lists the facility as part of "The Township," a retail cluster at 3434 FM 1092 that has already drawn other operators. Local Table opened there earlier this year, adding to the center's restaurant mix. The new Jamaica Pon Di Road suite previously housed Sugar's Cajun Cuisine & Bar, giving Chef G and his crew a ready-made restaurant shell to rework, after teasing plans for a second, larger location earlier this year, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
TDLR's project page currently lists the job status as "Project Registered" and names Danielle Powell as the tenant. An exact opening date has not been announced, so fans will have to keep an eye on Jamaica Pon Di Road's social channels for the official ribbon-cutting.
