
What started as a backyard pool party in Edgard on April 1 ended with a 14-year-old boy shot in the leg and an 18-year-old under arrest that same night, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say the teen victim was hit in the thigh, taken to a children's hospital for treatment, and has since been released.
Deputies Find Teen Collapsed After Pool Party
St. John the Baptist Parish deputies were called to the 200 block of Central Avenue at 8:22 p.m., where they found the boy after he had run from the scene and collapsed in a nearby yard. He was treated on scene, where a deputy applied a tourniquet to his leg, then transported by Acadian ambulance and Acadian AirMed to a children's hospital, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office.
Pool Party Turns Violent, Sheriff Says
The sheriff's office says the shooting unfolded after a pool party on the 200 block of Castle Drive. Investigators allege that 18-year-old Da'marcus Turley chased the 14-year-old and shot him in a front yard. Deputies say Turley tried to take what turned out to be a toy gun from the victim's backpack before the shooting. He was arrested later that night at his home without incident.
Charges And Custody
Turley was booked on charges of aggravated second-degree battery and armed robbery and is being held in the parish jail in LaPlace under a $115,000 bond, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office. The office noted that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Investigation And Next Steps
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office says the investigation is still active and is asking anyone with information or video related to the shooting to contact the department. Officials have not released additional details about a possible motive.
