Alamo’s longtime corner hangout is changing hands overnight. The Peasant’s Courtyard in Alamo served its final breakfast and lunch this weekend, and the familiar cafe is set to reopen tomorrow as The Courtyard Restaurant under new ownership. The Worth Group, which ran the cafe for nearly 17 years, has sold the business to a family bakery group that says it will retain some longtime staff. The new owners have teased a refreshed seasonal menu debuting on May 4 and said dinner service will be added soon.
Bakery family takes the helm
As reported by Pleasanton Weekly, the family behind East Bay Artisan, which operates a cafe called Cafe 1277 in Walnut Creek, is making its first brick-and-mortar foray into the San Ramon Valley by taking over the cafe at 3195 Danville Boulevard. The handoff was described as immediate, with The Peasant’s Courtyard serving its last daytime meals today and the new team planning to open the next morning under a new name and look. The cafe's location is also listed on OpenTable.
Worth's local run ends
Chef Rodney Worth and the Worth Group opened The Peasant’s Courtyard in August 2009 and had operated the Danville Boulevard spot since, according to the reporting. "It has been a true pleasure serving the community," Worth's team said in a farewell post, according to Pleasanton Weekly. The article also noted that Worth's Walnut Creek concept, The Little Pear, closed in January.
From farmers markets to a dining room
East Bay Artisan markets sourdough and hand-made sandwiches across the Tri-Valley and lists Cafe 1277 at Treat Towers on its own site, showing the group's small-format cafe experience. East Bay Artisan also appears on local farmers-market rosters, including the Danville listings maintained by PCFMA, which suggests the new operators already have a nearby customer base to draw on.
What diners can expect
Patrons should expect a soft relaunch with much of the cafe's daytime service intact while the new operators roll out changes. The owners said they look forward to serving the Alamo community and to introducing the seasonal menu on May 4, with dinner service to follow soon. Local diners can watch the restaurant's channels for official hours and menu updates over the coming weeks.
