A normally routine stretch of East Lake Drive in Braselton turned into an active crime scene Friday, after a body was discovered inside a home just steps from the town's municipal complex. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now leading a death probe at the residence, where SkyFox aerial footage showed crime-scene tape wrapped around the property and a GBI forensics van parked out front. Investigators are keeping a tight lid on details for now, including the victim's name and whether they suspect foul play.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, crews blocked off a portion of East Lake Drive near the municipal complex Friday afternoon while agents processed the scene. The station reports that SkyFox images captured forensic technicians working behind police tape, and that authorities have not yet said who first alerted them or when the death occurred.
GBI Confirmed Lead Role On Scene
As reported by WSB-TV Channel 2, the GBI confirmed it is conducting the death investigation at the East Lake Drive home, and NewsChopper crews were heading to the scene for live coverage. WSB noted there was no immediate information about what triggered the investigation and that officials have not publicly identified the person who was found.
What Comes Next
The GBI often steps in at the request of local law enforcement and may transport remains to the agency's Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, a process the bureau laid out in a previous press release about a similar death investigation. Per the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, autopsies and related lab work can take time, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact its regional investigative offices or submit tips online.
As of Friday evening, Braselton town officials had not released a public statement. Local law enforcement and the GBI asked people to steer clear of the area while investigators worked. This story will be updated as agencies release additional details or formal statements.
