
A man was found fatally injured on a downtown Tampa block Friday afternoon, and police quickly detained a person of interest as homicide detectives moved in on the scene.
Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of East Zack Street shortly before 4 p.m., where they found an adult male who was pronounced dead at the scene. The block was shut down to traffic and pedestrians while detectives launched their investigation, according to the Tampa Free Press.
What police said
A Tampa Police Department spokesperson said officers "have detained a person of interest and are actively working to determine their involvement and the circumstances of the death." The victim has not yet been publicly identified, and authorities have also withheld the name of the person being questioned. The department said additional details will be released as the investigation permits, as reported by the Tampa Free Press.

City records place the 800 block of East Zack Street on the northeastern edge of downtown, east of Union Station and near municipal buildings. The city's downtown parking map lists the Zack Street Lot at 812 E Zack St., and Tampa Fire Rescue Station 1 at 808 E Zack St., putting the scene on a central corridor with emergency services close by, per the City of Tampa.
