Bagby Hot Springs and access
The Mt. Hood National Forest describes Bagby Hot Springs as a popular, rustic soak site managed by a concessionaire and located next to the Clackamas River. In a press release, Mt. Hood National Forest notes the site’s basic facilities and warns that road access can be affected by weather and maintenance work.
Earlier this year, storm damage temporarily blocked access to Bagby when roads and trails on Mount Hood were shut down, according to a report from The Oregonian.
How authorities handle recoveries
Clackamas County public notices show that the sheriff’s office typically coordinates recoveries with local fire and water-rescue teams and works with the county medical examiner in remote areas. In a March 2025 case on the Sandy River, Clackamas County detailed how multiple agencies responded in rugged river conditions.
In the Bagby Hot Springs case, no cause of death has been released and the man’s identity remains unknown. The investigation is active, and authorities have not provided information beyond what appeared in the sheriff's X post. We will update this story if and when the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office releases additional details.
