Bulloch County sheriff's investigators accompanied DFCS caseworkers to Stilson Elementary on Friday, where they met with school officials and the child, Sheriff Lynn Anderson told the Statesboro Herald. Anderson said the 6-year-old "displayed extensive bruising and marks in a pattern consistent with abuse," and investigators arrested 25-year-old Rodney Christopher Fudge at a Brooklet residence. Because of the nature of the charges, Fudge remains without bond, the paper reports.
Stilson Elementary is part of the Bulloch County School District and serves students in pre-K through fifth grade, according to the school's public listing at the Georgia Department of Education. School staff are mandated reporters and must notify child-protective authorities when they suspect abuse, per state guidance from the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
