
A quiet Sunday afternoon on Castle Pines Drive in Mankato turned deadly when shots rang out inside a home, leaving a man dead and a woman wounded, according to police.
Officers arrived at the residence and found a deceased male and an injured female, authorities said. The woman was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, where she is listed in stable condition. A suspect was taken into custody inside the home without incident.
In a news release, the City of Mankato said officers responded Sunday afternoon after reports of shots fired on Castle Pines Drive and confirmed the suspect was taken into custody "at the residence without incident." The city emphasized that there is "no additional threat to the public."
The Star Tribune reported that the shooting happened in a residential neighborhood near the Mankato Golf Club and Loyola Catholic School. Local broadcaster KEYC noted that the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene and that the woman was transported to the Mayo Clinic hospital in Mankato, where she remains in stable condition.
Another station, KSTP, reported that authorities have not released the identities of the victims, the suspect, or any possible motive for the shooting. Both broadcasters cited statements from city officials and police.
Investigation underway
Mankato Public Safety is leading the investigation. According to the City of Mankato, investigators are processing the scene and following up on leads as they try to piece together what happened inside the Castle Pines Drive home.
