A late-night collision on Stedman Street in Chelmsford turned fatal, leaving one man dead and another in the hospital after two vehicles slammed into each other near 99 Stedman St., according to police. Officers were called to the scene shortly before midnight on Wednesday after reports of a serious crash. When they arrived, bystanders were already trying to help one of the drivers as emergency crews shut down the roadway to work the scene.
Crash Details
According to Boston 25 News, Chelmsford police were dispatched around 11:56 p.m. Wednesday to the area of 99 Stedman St. Officers found two vehicles with heavy front-end damage, and bystanders were tending to one of the drivers.
An adult male driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An occupant of the second vehicle was also transported to a hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Intersection Has A History Of Crashes
The junction of Route 110 (Chelmsford St.) and Stedman St. has long been flagged as a problem spot for drivers. The 2022 Northern Middlesex Regional Transportation Safety Report ranked that intersection among Chelmsford's higher-crash locations, logging 29 collisions between 2017 and 2019.
