San Francisco woke up under a gray blanket today, with mostly cloudy skies and a cool 53°F to start the day, along with a small chance of coastal drizzle before midday. Most neighborhoods are still on track to see some sun break through this afternoon, with highs in the mid 60s as onshore breezes pick up.
Afternoon Winds And Temperatures
Afternoon temperatures should land near 64°F across the city, then slip a degree or two in the late day as the marine layer noses inland. West-southwest winds will stay on the lighter side for most neighborhoods, at about 3 to 10 mph, but gusts can ramp up in the Salinas Valley and through higher passes. According to the National Weather Service, the windiest spots will be interior passes and coastal gaps.
Weekend Drizzle Outlook
Tomorrow and Sunday offer the better chance of light showers or drizzle, mainly along the immediate coast and the Central Coast ranges. Most locations will only see trace amounts to a few hundredths of an inch, while the Santa Lucia Range has the best chance to pick up a few tenths. Higher terrain could see gusts in the 25 to 35 mph range on Saturday, but widespread impacts are not expected.
Commute And What To Bring
Commuters should be ready for patchy morning fog in the North Bay valleys, where visibility may briefly dip, though most Bay Area routes will stay dry with only light breezes. If the fog thickens, ease off the gas and use low beams. A light jacket will go a long way for the cool evenings, and anyone planning outdoor time on Saturday should factor in the chance that coastal plans could be briefly interrupted by light drizzle.
