In a Facebook post, the Hampden District Attorney's Office said officers responded to a report of shots fired and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound at 139 Sargeant Street. According to the post, officers provided life-saving measures before the victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The DA's office said the investigation is being handled by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden DA, the DA's Murder Unit, and the Holyoke Police Department.

Local coverage and on-scene observations showed police officers and state troopers closing off parts of Chestnut and Sargeant streets while a K-9 unit searched a nearby vehicle.
