Wonder, the delivery-first "food hall" that has been steadily spreading across the D.C. region, is now aiming for Burtonsville. The company plans to open in the revamped Burtonsville Crossing shopping center, which would mark Wonder's fourth planned spot in Montgomery County and add another chef-focused takeout and delivery hub along Old Columbia Pike.
Where It Will Be
According to WhatNow, Wonder is taking a storefront at Burtonsville Crossing, 15701 Old Columbia Pike, in the space between Haraz Coffee House and Eggspectation. The property listing for the center at EDENS backs that up, confirming both the tenant lineup and the address. Neither Wonder nor the landlord has put an opening date on the calendar yet.
What Wonder Is
Wonder bills itself as a "new kind of food hall" where customers can combine dishes from about 15 chef and brand concepts in one order, per Wonder. The venture, founded by entrepreneur Marc Lore, has been in fast-growth mode across the Northeast and into the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region, according to WTOP.
Other Montgomery County Moves
The Burtonsville plans arrive as Wonder gets ready to open at 12240 Rockville Pike (which the company labels as North Bethesda) and continues work on sites in Germantown and Gaithersburg. Local reporting notes the Rockville buildout was targeting a March or April opening and that the Kentlands location is set to take part of the former Party City space, per MoCo Show. If Wonder sticks to its usual playbook, the Burtonsville shop is likely to lean on pickup and delivery with limited seating rather than a full-service dining room.
Why It Matters
Developers tend to like food-hall style projects because they cut vacancy risk and let multiple concepts share overhead. Critics, on the other hand, point out that delivery-first, ghost-kitchen-like setups can turn up the pressure on independent restaurants and concentrate spending with a handful of big players. Coverage of Wonder's quick rollout in the region has highlighted both the appeal of the convenience and the concerns over scale and market impact, per Axios.
What To Watch
On its site, Wonder's North Bethesda listing currently reads "COMING SOON — APR 2026" and the company is already collecting a waitlist through its app. For Burtonsville, there is still no public opening timeline from Wonder or the landlord. Expect the first real signs of movement to show up in permit filings, new signage, or a formal announcement, which should offer a clearer sense of when Burtonsville Crossing's newest tenant will actually start slinging food.
