Blackbird Doughnuts and Sally’s Sandwiches are teaming up for a joint shop at Clippership Wharf, and the owners say the spot will come with “a little sprinkling of The Gallows.” They are aiming for a late spring to early summer opening, promising another grab-and-go option along the steadily filling Harborwalk.
According to Boston Restaurant Talk, the plan surfaced in a Facebook reel from Gallows Group founder Rebecca Roth Gullo, who named Clippership Wharf as the site of the new outpost. The blog appears to have been the first to flag the announcement, which has since been picked up by other local outlets.
Blackbird And Sally’s Footprint
Blackbird’s website lists shops across Boston and Cambridge, including the South End, Fenway, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Harvard Square, Newton Centre and Watertown, and notes that the brand has already paired with Sally’s Sandwiches at some locations. According to Blackbird Doughnuts, the teams bake doughnuts daily and rotate flavors and specials from month to month.
Where It Will Sit
The new shop is set to join the retail lineup at Clippership Wharf, a mixed-use waterfront development that adds housing, public space and restaurant space along East Boston’s harbor. The wharf is designed as a Harborwalk destination, just minutes from the Maverick Blue Line stop, and developers say it is meant to host shops and eateries that serve both residents and commuters.
Gallows Group’s Touch
In the reel, Gullo said the shop would include “a little sprinkling of The Gallows,” the South End gastropub she operated until it closed in 2021. NBC Boston republished the item and highlighted that Gallows tie-in as a notable detail of the announcement.
What To Expect
Blackbird is known for rotating monthly doughnut flavors, in-shop specials and occasional doughnut-and-ice-cream creations, while Sally’s handles the sandwich side at shared locations. Blackbird Doughnuts points to daily baking and changing menus, so customers can expect a shifting lineup when the Clippership Wharf shop opens.
Owners have not posted a firm opening date, saying more details will land on their channels as the build-out wraps. East Boston residents and waterfront workers can likely expect an official launch announcement in the coming weeks as the team finalizes the space.
