The Bunny Bash youth baseball tournament in El Paso was shut down at the last minute this weekend after organizers said they received an anonymous threat aimed at event security. National Championship Sports El Paso pulled the plug on Friday, saying it would not play ball while any potential risk was on the table. Coaches and team administrators were notified, games set for fields across the city were called off, and families were left scrambling to figure out what to do with a suddenly wide open weekend.
The group announced the decision in a Facebook post and in a statement to coaches, calling the anonymous message a "serious threat" and saying it "cannot, in good conscience, proceed with the event while any potential risk exists," according to KVIA. The station reports the organizer said it received the tip on Friday and immediately alerted law enforcement, and that it shared a screenshot of the Facebook statement in its coverage.
Where The Games Were Set To Be Played
The Bunny Bash was billed as an Apr. 17–19 event in El Paso with divisions from 6U through 18U, and National Championship Sports' event page listed Capistrano Park as the primary site for pool and bracket play. PlayNCS shows the tournament on its El Paso schedule and lays out the planned fields and division breakdowns. Dozens of teams typically travel for NCS regional events, which can make sudden cancellations logistically complicated for coaches and families.
Investigation And Organizer Response
NCS El Paso told teams it was working with the El Paso Police Department to investigate the tip and determine whether the threat was credible, KVIA reported. Organizers said they hoped the message was "nothing more than an individual trying to show his dislike towards the event," but they still chose to cancel while the situation is reviewed. The group has told coaches and families it will provide updates as the investigation moves forward.
What Teams And Families Should Expect
Coaches and parents are being told to watch for direct messages from their team administrators, as well as updates on the NCS event page and the organizer's social channels about refunds, credits, or rescheduling. PlayNCS notes that some tournament cancellations may result in credits toward future events, although organizers' own statements will determine how this particular case is handled. For now, the NCS event listing and local news coverage remain the go-to sources for the latest information.
