Gunfire shattered a South Cumminsville block Wednesday night, sending one resident to the hospital and leaving neighbors with more questions than answers.
Officers were called to the 1700 block of Elmore Street around 8:10 p.m., where they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, and police said the injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police response and investigation
According to WKRC, officers who responded to Elmore Street quickly located the victim and arranged transport to the hospital. Investigators remained on scene gathering evidence as the block stayed lit up with cruiser lights.
Police have not released any information about a possible suspect, and no description was immediately available. Detectives have opened an investigation into the shooting and are working to determine what led up to the gunfire.
Neighborhood history
The shooting is the latest violent incident on the same stretch of street. In June 2025, a man was shot and killed on the 1700 block of Elmore Street, as reported by WCPO. That fatal case and other shootings in recent years have fueled ongoing safety concerns among South Cumminsville residents.
Citywide snapshot
Wednesday night was not quiet elsewhere in Cincinnati either. Earlier that evening, another person was hospitalized after a separate shooting in Avondale, according to WLWT. Police say investigations into both incidents remain active and are asking anyone with information to contact Cincinnati authorities.
