Three people, two juveniles and an 18-year-old, were arrested yesterday after a motorist reported that someone in a group pointed a handgun with a green laser at their car near East Tabor Avenue and Manor Place by Tabor Park in Fairfield, according to police. Officers arrived at about 1:35 AM, detained the group and, during a search, found two juveniles carrying loaded handguns and the 18-year-old in possession of a loaded firearm.
Police Credit Quick Action
The Fairfield Police Department credited its officers' response, saying that “swift response, strong situational awareness, and decisive action led to a safe outcome and the removal of multiple illegal firearms from juveniles,” as reported by KTVU. Officers say the stops were quick and controlled, and all three individuals were taken into custody without injury.
Police say the suspects face multiple weapons-related counts, including carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, being a minor in possession of a handgun, possession of a large-capacity magazine and possession of an assault weapon.
Not The First Time
Fairfield officers have been recovering weapons from young people in other recent incidents as well. In March 2024, a high-speed chase that ended in a fiery crash also led to the arrest of three juveniles, and officers found a replica gun at the scene. Police and community leaders have reiterated that reducing illegal guns in public spaces remains a top priority as officers continue to respond to late-night calls involving groups of youths, per Hoodline.
What Happens Next
The department has not released the suspects' names, according to KTVU. With two of the suspects underage, parts of the case could move through juvenile court, while the 18-year-old may face adult prosecution depending on how prosecutors decide to charge the case. Fairfield police say the investigation is active and encourage anyone with information to contact the department's non-emergency line.
Public Safety Takeaway
Officers say the fast response removed an immediate threat and prevented what could have been a far worse outcome. Investigators are continuing to follow up on leads, and the department reiterated that tips from the public play a key role in closing cases like this one.
