A quiet Saturday evening at the Extended Stay America on Rockdale Road in Braintree turned chaotic when a man staying at the hotel was shot in the parking lot, according to police. The guest was hit in the foot and taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment. Witnesses told officers they heard gunfire and then saw a man sprinting toward the edge of the lot seconds after the shots rang out.
Police say victim was found at nearby store
In a press release from Braintree Police, officers were first dispatched after the Braintree Fire Department reported shots fired at the Extended Stay America. A short time later, a separate 911 call came in from the Men’s Wearhouse on Granite Street. That is where officers found the wounded hotel guest, after staff at the clothing store alerted 911 to the injured man.
Ballistics recovered; nearby building locked down
According to NBC Boston, investigators recovered ballistic evidence from the hotel parking lot, which was collected by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section. FedEx employees working nearby also reported hearing the gunfire and briefly locked down their building while officers searched the surrounding area.
Person of interest tied to a hotel room
Braintree Police say a review of CCTV footage identified a person of interest who is registered as a guest at the Extended Stay America. Officers have so far been unable to reach that individual. The person has not been publicly identified, and detectives say the investigation remains active.
