A Saturday evening visit to Dolly Parton’s Stampede in Pigeon Forge turned deadly when a handgun discharged in the attraction’s parking lot, killing one man, authorities said.
Pigeon Forge police said they responded to a 911 call about a shot fired around 7:35 p.m. Officers arrived to find two men inside a vehicle in the parking lot. According to police, one man told officers his gun had discharged, hitting the other man. The injured man was taken to LeConte Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to WVLT, the account comes from a news release issued by the Pigeon Forge Police Department, which described the shooting as an active investigation. WVLT reports that officers found both men inside the vehicle and that authorities said no additional information would be released at this time.

Dolly Parton’s Stampede is located at 3849 Parkway in Pigeon Forge, according to the attraction’s official site. The victim was taken to LeConte Medical Center in nearby Sevierville, which lists its address as 742 Middle Creek Road and serves as the county’s emergency hospital.

Pigeon Forge police have not announced any arrests or charges and say the case remains an active investigation while the scene is processed.
