An aggravated auto theft report turned into a brief chase and two arrests Thursday, after Denver police tracked down suspects near Holly Street and East 26th Avenue.
Officers moved into the area to contact people reportedly tied to the theft and, after a short pursuit on foot, detained two suspects. Police said the investigation is still underway and did not immediately release additional details.
In a post on X, the Denver Police Department said officers were “in the area working to contact suspects reportedly involved in an aggravated auto theft” and confirmed that “two suspects were arrested after a foot pursuit.” The department also repeated its usual reminder that its social accounts are not monitored for service requests and listed the non-emergency number, 720-913-2000. At least one user replied to the post asking what was happening at Holly and 26th.
Auto theft trends and local response
While Thursday’s arrests highlight that car theft remains a live issue, statewide numbers have been moving in the opposite direction. Colorado saw a sharp drop in motor vehicle thefts in 2025 after coordinated task-force work, according to a review summarized by SECO News.
Denver-specific reporting and police figures similarly showed a double-digit decline in stolen-vehicle reports last year, according to the Denver Gazette, even as individual theft and pursuit cases continue to pop up across the city.
Police follow-up and resources
Police have not yet released suspect names, specific charges, or further information about the alleged aggravated auto theft, and the case remains active. The Denver Police Department again stressed that its social media is not staffed for real-time response and urged anyone with tips about the incident to call the non-emergency line at 720-913-2000 or call or text 911 for emergencies.
