A quiet Sunday morning turned violent in Humboldt Park when a 29-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in a drive-by on Chicago's West Side. The attack happened around 8:48 a.m. on the 2700 block of West Thomas Street near Washtenaw Avenue, when someone in a silver car opened fire on a man standing outside. He was hit in the torso and rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Area Three detectives are handling the investigation.
According to ABC7 Chicago, police said the victim was struck when the silver car drove by, and investigators have been canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. The station reports the man is 29 and that CPD Area Three detectives were assigned to the case.
Another Drive-By In A Neighborhood On Edge
The shooting follows other recent drive-by incidents in Humboldt Park that have neighbors on edge. As reported in a previous incident where a March drive-by left a man gravely wounded, detectives asked the public for video and tips to help track down those responsible.
What Police Are Asking
So far, police have released only a limited description of the vehicle involved and have not named any suspects. Chicago police told ABC7 Chicago that detectives will be reviewing nearby camera footage and continuing to canvass the neighborhood for additional witnesses as the investigation moves forward.
Anyone who saw the shooting or has video is urged to contact investigators. A previous report noted that the Chicago Police Department maintains an anonymous tip portal and that texting CPDTip to 738477 will generate a link to the online tip form.
What's Next
Area Three detectives continue to work the case, and this newsroom will update this story if police or hospital officials release more information. For now, authorities are keeping details limited while the victim remains in critical condition and the investigation is still unfolding.
