A Saturday night drive through Eden Prairie ended in tragedy when a two-vehicle crash on Highway 212 at Prairie Center Drive left one person dead and another in the hospital, authorities said. The collision was reported around 8:15 p.m., and emergency crews from Eden Prairie police and fire joined Minnesota State Patrol troopers at the busy interchange. Troopers shut down the area while investigators worked the scene, then reopened lanes once debris and evidence had been cleared.
The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed that one person was killed and another was transported to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment, according to KSTP. Officials said they had not released information about the victims or what caused the collision as of Saturday night. The State Patrol said more details will be made public as the investigation moves forward.
Historic Trouble at a Busy Interchange
The Highway 212 and Prairie Center Drive interchange anchors Eden Prairie’s main retail strip, a stretch that has seen its share of trouble. In recent years it has been the site of multiple crashes and police pursuits, including a January 2024 chase that ended on the Prairie Center exit, according to CBS Minnesota. That history is a reminder of how quickly a serious crash can bring west-metro traffic to a standstill. Drivers passing through the corridor should plan for lane closures and detours whenever investigators are called to a scene there.
Investigation and Where to Get Updates
Troopers and Eden Prairie police remained at the interchange collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as the Minnesota State Patrol led the investigation, officials said. The agency has pledged to release additional information as it becomes available. Formal updates and official State Patrol news releases are posted through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, and local broadcasters are expected to carry new details as the case develops.
