A woman was shot by Rockdale County deputies late Saturday after, according to officials, she ran at them while holding a knife during a disturbance on Sugar Creek Lane. She was taken to a hospital, and authorities have not released her name or given an update on her condition. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to review what happened.
According to a news release reported by Atlanta News First, deputies responded around 7:50 p.m. to a disturbance on Sugar Creek Lane and encountered a woman they described as "hostile." Investigators say she was "wielding a knife," ran toward deputies and was shot, after which she was hospitalized.
GBI Takes Over Investigation
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now leading the inquiry and reviewing the circumstances of the shooting. Per a Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release, the agency also investigated a separate Rockdale deputy-involved shooting on April 13.

"Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office for review," the Georgia Bureau of Investigation wrote in its earlier release. Until investigators release their findings, the Rockdale County sheriff’s office has not identified the woman or said whether charges will be filed.
