Commuters on one of north Seattle’s busiest corridors got an unwelcome jolt Wednesday when a driver stopped his car in the middle of Lake City Way, stepped out holding a weapon and began threatening people, according to the Seattle Police Department. Officers moved in on the roadway, detained the man at the scene and took him into custody, authorities said.
The tense encounter was caught on video and first reported by KING 5, which published raw footage of officers responding on Lake City Way after callers reported a man threatening people in the road.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the incident began when the man stopped in the middle of the road, got out of his vehicle holding a weapon and threatened others. Officers ultimately took him into custody, and SPD says the case remains under investigation.

Lake City Way is a major arterial in northeast Seattle, and the Seattle Department of Transportation notes the corridor carries more than 30,000 vehicles on an average weekday and has been the focus of safety projects.
