Deputies say a late-night chase in Lake Worth Beach ended with a shot fired at a woman’s car and her ex behind bars.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, 26-year-old Geoffrey E. Moreno was arrested Tuesday after his ex-girlfriend told deputies he pursued her and fired at her vehicle late Sunday, leaving a bullet mark on the driver’s-side door but causing no injuries. Moreno was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and is being held without bond.
WPBF reports that just after 11:30 p.m. on April 26, the woman drove straight to a sheriff’s office because she believed she was being chased. The report says Moreno followed her along South Military Trail, made an illegal U-turn, blocked her lane, then got out of his vehicle and fired a single round at the driver’s-side door. Detectives say surveillance footage and license plate readers backed up her account. Deputies found a bullet defect in the door, and the woman, who the report says shares a child with Moreno and had dated him on and off for nearly a decade, was not hurt.
Online booking logs show Moreno was arrested April 27 and is facing counts that include premeditated attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and shooting into an occupied vehicle. A judge ordered that he have no contact with the victim and kept him held without bond. Florida Arrests lists the Palm Beach County booking and felony charges consistent with the sheriff’s report.
Legal Process and Charges
The charges against Moreno are serious felonies that prosecutors will still have to prove in court, and the state attorney’s office will determine how to formally proceed as the investigation continues. WPBF notes that deputies had previously responded to domestic-dispute calls involving the pair and that Moreno remains held without bond as the case moves forward.
