
A late-night crash on Central Expressway in Sunnyvale left a local woman in her 50s dead and a male driver in custody on suspicion of felony DUI. The collision between a sedan and a truck happened just before 11 PM yesterday, and despite emergency crews’ efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to Valley Medical Center for treatment before being arrested.
According to a press release from the City of Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at about 10:55 PM at Central Expressway and Commercial Street. The impact involved a sedan and a truck, and rescue crews had to extricate the female driver from the wreckage before she was declared deceased on scene. The male driver, in his 30s, was transported to Valley Medical Center for evaluation. Officials listed the case number as CR26-3164 and asked anyone who witnessed the collision to contact MAIT Investigator M. Longanecker at (408) 730-7110.
In a post from Sunnyvale DPS on X, investigators said the male driver initially refused to provide a blood sample and declined to give a statement. Detectives then obtained a search warrant and had a blood sample collected. The department reported that the man was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, and noted that additional charges are under review.
