Where It Happened
Houghton's Pond sits inside the state-managed Blue Hills Reservation, a heavily used recreation area that draws hikers, swimmers and families during the warmer months. Parking lots and trails can get crowded, especially in the evenings and on weekends.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation's page for Houghton's Pond notes that dogs are not allowed on the pond's swimming beach, a rule that underscores how off-leash encounters in the area can quickly escalate, according to Mass.gov.
Officials have not released the names of those involved or said whether any charges will be filed. Initial reports did not include specific details about injuries to the person who said they were attacked. Milton's animal control officer is expected to complete the follow-up investigation, and authorities have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact local police.
