A late-night three-vehicle crash at Camp Creek Parkway and Desert Drive in East Point left a motorcyclist dead on Wednesday, after police say an SUV turned directly into the rider’s path.
The wreck happened around 10:45 p.m. and involved a Ford Explorer, the motorcycle and a second SUV. Responding officers found the rider with fatal injuries, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to East Point police.
According to 11Alive, which cited the East Point Police Department, preliminary findings indicate a Ford Explorer traveling westbound on Camp Creek Parkway tried to turn left onto Desert Drive and failed to yield, cutting across the path of an eastbound motorcycle. The bike hit the passenger side of the Explorer, and after that initial impact, the Explorer collided with a second SUV before coming to rest on Desert Drive. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Motorcycle riders continue to be overrepresented in deadly crashes across the state. East Point police say the investigation is ongoing, and the motorcyclist’s name had not been released as of the initial reports. According to 11Alive, charges are pending against the driver of the Ford Explorer while detectives continue to review the circumstances of the crash.
