A Massachusetts man was killed in a head-on collision on Route 9 in Searsburg, Vermont, according to state police. The other driver survived with minor injuries, and Vermont State Police troopers are now investigating what led up to the deadly crash.
What Police Say
Vermont State Police told NBC Boston the crash happened on state Route 9 at about 10:53 p.m., when an SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle after both drivers swerved. The report identified the SUV driver as 53-year-old Alan Vautrain of Ludlow, Massachusetts, and noted that he was wearing a seatbelt. Troopers told the station they are continuing to investigate what caused the collision.

WCAX reports that Vautrain was pronounced dead at the scene and that the other driver, described as a 72-year-old Wilmington resident, suffered only minor injuries. Emergency crews responded and assisted at the scene while state troopers carried out their initial investigation. Authorities have not released any information about speed, impairment or other potential contributing factors.
