
Gunfire cut through the Friday lunch hour at a South Fulton shopping plaza along Campbellton‑Fairburn Road, leaving one person critically wounded and rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where the victim was taken into surgery, authorities said.
Police Lock Down Plaza As Crime Scene
South Fulton police told 11Alive the shooting happened around noon outside the Zaxby's in the plaza. The wounded person was later found near the La Fiesta restaurant as officers worked the scene.
Investigators are treating the entire shopping center as a crime scene while they sort out exactly what unfolded. Police confirmed that one person was shot but said the precise spot where the gunfire rang out is still unclear, according to 11Alive.
Where It Happened
The shooting took place in the 5370 block of Campbellton‑Fairburn Road, at a shopping plaza that includes a Publix supermarket and several restaurants, per MapQuest.
The victim was transported to downtown Grady Memorial Hospital. Grady has also been developing a freestanding emergency center on Campbellton‑Fairburn Road to serve South Fulton residents, according to Grady Health.
