Just after midnight yesterday on Indianapolis' north side, a mother says a stranger climbed up to her apartment and tried to pull her 11-year-old daughter through a bedroom window. The girl's mother, Sarah Elsey, told reporters her daughter, Sofia, escaped without serious injury after Elsey confronted the intruder. The family says they called police and are shaken by the late-night break-in.
What The Mother Told Reporters
Elsey told WTHR that a chair was left outside the bedroom window and she believes the man used it to climb up and reach through the opening. Elsey said the bedroom window did not lock, which allowed the suspect to grab at her daughter before she and her children pulled away. WTHR reported the incident happened just after midnight yesterday.
Where It Happened
The break-in was reported at the Lodge at Trails Edge, a small apartment complex along the Monon Trail on the far north side. Property listings and neighborhood maps show the complex in the Nora/Castleton area and note its proximity to local shops and the trail, per Redfin.
Police Response And How To Help
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed a detective has been assigned and that North District officers have increased patrols near the complex. Police said no arrests have been made. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact IMPD's North District at 317-327-6100 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477, according to WTHR.
