A quiet morning at Cesar Chavez Park in south Phoenix turned deadly on Wednesday when a woman was struck and killed, according to police. Emergency crews found a heavily damaged pickup truck on the park's grass and rushed the woman to a hospital, where she later died.
The collision happened just before 8 a.m. near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road and left the pickup stopped on the grass, ABC15 Arizona reported. Video from the scene showed serious damage to the truck. The driver, identified only as a man, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Phoenix police said the cause of the crash is still under investigation, and detectives remained at the scene collecting evidence. The park sits near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road, and the City of Phoenix parks listing identifies the Cesar Chavez complex at that location.
