A weekend argument at a McFarlin Avenue property in Henning spiraled into gunfire Sunday, leaving one man dead and another injured, according to investigators. Lauderdale County deputies say they arrived to find evidence that multiple weapons had been used, and they later recovered guns from a vehicle tied to one of the people at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the names of anyone involved, citing the still-active investigation.

As reported by WREG, the violence started as a verbal argument between a 54-year-old man and a 31-year-old man at the McFarlin Avenue property, which the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office describes as a meeting spot for a motorcycle club called 1wheelmotion. At some point during the dispute, shots were fired.

One person wounded in the shooting was taken to Regional One Health for treatment, WREG reported.

Investigators say evidence at the scene indicates more than one weapon was used. According to the sheriff's office, one of the handguns had been reported from another county, adding another layer of questions for detectives.

In a statement to WREG, Sheriff Brian Kelly did not mince words about how quickly things can go wrong when guns get pulled. “When tempers take over and firearms are introduced, the outcome is permanent,” he said.

Investigation and Evidence

Deputies say they collected additional guns from a vehicle linked to one of the individuals involved and are processing the property for physical evidence. Detectives are reviewing ballistics and interviewing witnesses as they work to piece together who fired which shots and when.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with video or information to contact its Criminal Investigations Division at 731-635-1311. Officials say the case remains open and that the ongoing review could lead to arrests or criminal charges.

Small Town Context

Henning is a small Lauderdale County town of fewer than 1,000 residents, home to Fort Pillow State Park and the Alex Haley museum, according to the Lauderdale County Chamber. In a community this small, a deadly shooting at a local motorcycle club hangout lands hard and, authorities say, is a stark reminder that serious violence can erupt even far from big-city streets.
