A late-night visit to a new acquaintance's apartment ended in deadly gunfire for a Nashville man, and his mother says she is still struggling to understand how a routine phone call turned into her worst nightmare.

Metro Nashville Police say 29-year-old Terry Coleman was shot just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, inside an apartment on Harper Ridge Place in Antioch, while visiting a woman he had recently met. Officers identified 23-year-old Jordan Jackson as the suspect and later arrested him in Knoxville. Investigators say the case remains an active homicide investigation.

Kim Coleman told reporters she had been on the phone with her son that night and grew alarmed after a series of pocket dials. Worried something was wrong, she drove to the complex, only to learn he had been killed. She says she has turned those recordings over to detectives.

"I thought my kids would be burying me, not me having to bury my first love," she said, describing the loss of her only son and the shock that followed. Her account and the timeline of that final call were detailed by WSMV.

Police Say An Argument Escalated Into A Deadly Shooting

According to Metro Nashville Police, the trouble started outside the apartment and followed Coleman and Jackson inside. Investigators say that is where Jackson pulled a gun and shot Coleman multiple times while Jackson's children were inside the home.

Detectives obtained a criminal homicide warrant and tracked Jackson to a residence in East Knoxville, where he was taken into custody, according to local coverage. As reported by NewsChannel5, police have not released any information about a possible motive.

Neighbors Say The Complex Feels Different Now

Residents at the Timbers at Mill Creek complex say the killing has shaken what already felt like a fragile sense of security. Tenants told reporters they are beefing up precautions around their doors and cars and keeping a closer eye on who comes and goes.

The shooting has heightened anxiety for many neighbors, who say they are now glued to police updates as officers work to untangle what led to the confrontation inside the unit.

Homicide Charge, Evidence Allegations And Where The Case Stands

Jackson is charged with homicide and tampering with evidence and was booked into the Davidson County Detention Center after officers found him in Knoxville. He is being held on a $510,000 bond while Metro Nashville Police review witness statements and the phone recordings provided by Coleman's family, according to WSMV.

As the family prepares for a funeral, they say they are desperate for answers and are pleading with anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact Metro Nashville Police as they continue to piece together what happened in the early-morning hours inside that Antioch apartment.
