The San Francisco 49ers are sticking with the star they know at left tackle. Trent Williams has agreed to a two-year, $50 million restructured contract, his agency announced today, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season. The deal wipes out a major roster question heading into draft week and gives the front office some badly needed clarity on its offensive line plans.
As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, Williams' agency said the new package includes a $22 million signing bonus and about $37 million in fully guaranteed money. The Chronicle also noted that under his previous deal, Williams had been set to earn roughly $32.2 million this season, none of it guaranteed before the restructure.
Proven performer despite age
Williams is 37 and still playing like a franchise cornerstone. He was a first-team All-Pro last season and picked up his 12th Pro Bowl selection, according to the 49ers. Pro Football Focus graded him third among qualifying offensive tackles in 2025, a reminder of why the team was willing to commit significant guaranteed money to keep him exactly where he is.
Cap math and roster reality
The extension comes after months of negotiations that ramped up when the 49ers declined a $10 million option that would have pushed Williams' 2026 cap number into the high-30-million range, sources told ESPN. With no clear successor on the roster and the threat of a sizable dead-cap hit if they moved on, the 49ers chose short-term certainty while spreading out the cap pain. That blend of present protection and future flexibility helps explain why the deal got done right before the draft.
What the front office was weighing
The agreement settles a key issue for a team built to contend right now and all but guarantees Brock Purdy will have his blind side protected for the near future. Williams' agency publicized the terms and the deal was quickly picked up across the league, including early reporting from NFL Trade Rumors.
