Caffenio, the Sonora-born coffee chain that brought its first U.S. drive-thru to Mesa last year, has quietly added a new move to its Arizona playbook: a pickup-only outpost on East Washington Street in Phoenix. The compact spot is strictly grab-and-go, with no indoor seating and no drive-thru, and it keeps reduced weekday hours. Customers can snag drinks ordered through Caffenio’s app, via delivery platforms, or by walking up to the counter.
Per Caffenio, beans from Pluma Hidalgo in Oaxaca sit at the heart of the chain’s flavor profile. Industry coverage notes that the Mesa drive-thru served as Caffenio’s U.S. debut and that the company set up a Phoenix headquarters earlier this year as part of a broader Southwest expansion, according to World Coffee Portal.
Local reporting confirms the new Phoenix spot appears in the chain’s app as “Caffenio pick-up Washington” at 5444 E Washington St, Suite 1, and that it currently operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as detailed by ABC15. That report notes the location does not offer seating or drive-thru service and accepts orders through the app or in person, while the store is also listed for delivery on DoorDash.
What to order and extras
Caffenio’s U.S. menu leans on more than 90 hot and cold drinks, ranging from milkshake-style lattes to its Kfreeze and Rockaccino offerings. Coverage of the Mesa debut, republished from the Arizona Republic, reported long lines for that first Arizona opening. The Arizona Republic also notes that the company sells coffee-making machines, cups, and thermoses at some U.S. locations and through its website.
Why the Phoenix pickup matters
The pickup-only format suggests Caffenio is testing a smaller urban footprint in Phoenix while keeping its drive-thru model in Mesa, a two-pronged strategy aimed at both quick-serve and walk-up customers. As World Coffee Portal points out, the chain’s U.S. expansion puts it up against established drive-thru coffee players even as it leans on Mexican-sourced beans and a distinctive, dessert-forward menu.
For Valley coffee drinkers, the Washington Street pickup adds a downtown-style grab-and-go option to Caffenio’s Arizona lineup. ABC15 has the basic visit details and ordering notes. Menus and hours may shift as the new outpost settles in, so checking the chain’s app or delivery listings is the safest bet for up-to-date info.
