New Orleans police are asking for the public’s help finding a 20-year-old person of interest in a Feb. 4 homicide in the St. Roch neighborhood, saying he may hold key information in the still-active case. The killing happened in the 1800 block of North Miro Street, and detectives have now put a name, a face and a car description in front of the public as they renew their push for tips.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, investigators have identified the person of interest as Donovan DeMazeliere, a Black male born March 3, 2006. The department says the homicide occurred on Feb. 4 in the 1800 block of North Miro Street and that DeMazeliere may be driving a Nissan Altima with Louisiana license plate 625 DYP. A photo of DeMazeliere was released along with the renewed appeal, and police are urging anyone who recognizes him or the vehicle to contact detectives.
DeMazeliere’s image has already been circulating. Earlier this month, it appeared in the department’s public “Front Burner Friday” roundup, a weekly list spotlighting people police want to locate, local station WDSU reported. The April 10 feature shows the same photo officials are now pushing in their latest call for leads, a sign detectives are not letting this case drift into the background.
Police have labeled DeMazeliere a “person of interest,” a tag that typically means investigators believe someone may have information relevant to a case, even if they have not publicly detailed that person’s exact role.
