A 23-year-old woman was injured early Friday in a violent home invasion in Chicago's North Center neighborhood after a man forced his way into her apartment. The woman fought back as the intruder came inside, but he struck her in the head before taking off, leaving her with a laceration. Police later took a suspect into custody and say they are reviewing possible charges.
The break-in happened at about 12:02 a.m. in the 4200-block of North Lincoln Avenue, according to ABC7 Chicago. Police said the 23-year-old saw the man come in through the front door and tried to fight him off before he hit her and ran. She suffered a laceration to the head but declined medical attention at the scene, opting not to go to the hospital.
Neighbors and Safety
An incident like this can jolt a neighborhood that prides itself on quiet, tree-lined blocks and a sense of safety. Building managers and neighborhood watch groups often urge residents to keep doors locked, be mindful of who is buzzed in, and double-check visitors before opening up, advice that feels a little less theoretical after a case like this. Police have not said whether the victim and the suspect knew each other.
Investigation
Chicago police arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the break-in, and charges are pending, according to ABC7 Chicago. Detectives have released few details about the circumstances of the arrest, and anyone with information is asked to contact police as the investigation continues.
