A pair of early-morning break-ins in the North End ended with a quick collar, as Boston police say District A-1 detectives tied a Boston man to two separate burglaries, including what they describe as a forced entry at a Fleet Street restaurant. Surveillance cameras and neighbor tips helped narrow the search, and officers moved in over the weekend. Police say they recovered suspected narcotics, a weapon and stolen property during the arrest.
According to the Boston Police Department, detectives identified 37-year-old David Loughran and arrested him on Sunday in the vestibule of 185 Fulton Street. A search of his backpack allegedly turned up multiple controlled substances, an unsheathed kitchen knife and a digital scale, the department said. Loughran was transported to the Nashua Street Jail for booking and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
Two North End Crime Scenes
One of the burglaries was reported at La Summa Ristorante, a longtime neighborhood spot at 30 Fleet Street. The other unfolded inside a residential building on Prince Street. Neighbors there told officers they saw a man moving through a hallway with a large bag on the night tied to the Prince Street break-in. Police say the mix of restaurants and apartments on that block helped them match surveillance footage with what witnesses reported.
What Police Say Was Taken And The Charges Filed
According to the department’s Facebook post, the La Summa break-in involved manipulating a rear-door lock and the theft of an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, three blank company checks, two prepaid gift certificates, a backpack and other personal items belonging to staff. The Prince Street burglary allegedly netted several pairs of sneakers and a building spare key. Arrest warrants issued by Boston Municipal Court were executed the following day, and Loughran now faces charges that police list as unarmed burglary; two counts of larceny from a building; breaking and entering a building at night for felony; trespassing; carrying a dangerous weapon; and possession of Class A, B and E controlled substances. Police say those counts will be presented at arraignment in Boston Municipal Court.
Prior Run-Ins With Detectives
Loughran’s name is not new to Boston Police records. The department’s District A-1 anti-crime unit Boston Police Department page documents an earlier 2024 arrest tied to package theft and breaking and entering, and an entry connected to 185 Fulton Street in March appears in the department’s publicly posted Boston Police Department district journal. Those records show detectives have encountered him before.
What Comes Next In Court
Police say Loughran remains in custody pending arraignment, and the case will proceed through Boston Municipal Court. Investigators credited tips from residents with helping crack the case and are asking anyone with additional information to contact District A-1.
