A quiet Sunday morning drive through north Phoenix turned into a major traffic mess when a single-vehicle rollover on northbound Interstate 17 at Peoria Avenue shut down the freeway and sent four people to the hospital, authorities said. The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m., and emergency crews quickly closed lanes while they secured the scene and treated the injured.
According to Arizona's Family, the Arizona Department of Public Safety described the incident as a single-vehicle crash that resulted in serious injuries, with four people rushed to Valley hospitals. Traffic-camera images shared with the outlet showed an overturned vehicle blocking the northbound lanes.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reported that northbound I-17 was closed at Peoria Avenue with no estimated time for reopening. Traffic was being diverted off at Peoria, with drivers allowed to re-enter the freeway at Cactus Road. ADOT urged motorists to check AZ511 for real-time updates while crews cleared debris and tow operators worked to remove the overturned vehicle.
What investigators say
State troopers and fire crews remained on scene to conduct a standard crash investigation and clear the roadway. Authorities have not released information on what caused the rollover or on the conditions of the four patients.
