Early Friday morning, gunfire struck a parked vehicle at the Chestnut Place apartment complex on Joanne Drive in Ashland, according to police. Responding officers found at least four apparent bullet holes in the car, secured the area and began interviewing the person who reported the incident.
Investigation underway
A 911 call came in at about 1:28 a.m., triggering the police response, according to Boston 25 News. In a department release, police said the case remains in its early stages and investigators currently believe the shooting was an isolated incident. The Ashland Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit stayed on scene as officers documented the damage and collected evidence.
State teams at the scene
The Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Ballistics Unit were called in to help process the vehicle and gather additional evidence, NBC Boston reported. Officers canvassed the apartment complex for potential witnesses and checked for any available video footage. Police have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive while the investigation continues.
Officials ask for tips
Deputy Police Chief Michael Viniculla told the MetroWest Daily News that only limited information could be shared for now, saying, "We will provide additional information when we are able to do so."
