Authorities say an early-morning confrontation at a Pembroke Park gas station escalated fast when a driver allegedly pulled a handgun on a security guard, then drove off up West Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

According to police, the trouble started around 5:10 a.m. Friday at the RaceTrac on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard. A security guard told officers a man threatened him and pulled a gun from a small black bag before leaving the scene. Investigators have not yet released the driver’s name and say additional details are still under wraps.

Police say deputies recovered the gun during a felony stop

After the report came in, Pembroke Park police issued a be-on-the-lookout for the suspect’s vehicle. Within about five minutes, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted a matching car at the Wawa at 3199 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

Deputies carried out a felony traffic stop, ordering the occupants out of the vehicle and taking both the driver and a passenger into custody without incident. A handgun was found inside a black bag in the car, according to Local 10. Investigators interviewed the passenger and released that person at the scene, while the driver was taken to the Broward County Main Jail.

The RaceTrac on Hallandale Beach Boulevard is no stranger to law enforcement. In March 2025, police were looking for suspects after a large crowd swarmed the same station and vandalized a Pembroke Park decoy police car at the pumps, an incident involving dozens of motorcycles, ATVs and dirt bikes that sparked an active investigation at the time, decoy vehicle vandalism coverage noted.

Pembroke Park police have not announced what charges the driver in Friday’s incident may face or released further information about the case. Local 10 reported that no additional details were available at the time of publication.
