
A late-night gunshot shook a Tremont block when a gunman opened fire near Prospect Place and Clay Avenue, and now police are trying to track down three people caught on camera.
According to the NYPD, the incident unfolded on March 17, 2026, at about 10:45 p.m., when one person displayed a firearm and fired a round near Prospect Place and Clay Avenue in the Tremont section of the Bronx. Police say the shooter then handed the weapon to a second person, and all three took off eastbound on Prospect Place. No injuries were reported.
On April 7 the NYPD released surveillance stills and a short video in an effort to identify the trio, and local outlet Norwood News republished the department's bulletin and images with still frames. Norwood News reports that police say the first suspect fired a single round before the group fled and that tips leading to an arrest and indictment may be eligible for a reward of up to $3,500.
What the footage appears to show
The clip posted by the NYPD shows three figures moving together before one of them draws and fires a handgun, then passes the weapon to another, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.
Police describe the first suspect as wearing a black jacket, a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and black sneakers. The second is described as wearing a black face mask, black sweatshirt and black sweatpants. The third is described as wearing a black hat, black jacket, black jeans and black-and-white sneakers.
How to pass along tips
Anyone with information can call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), use the Spanish line at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782), or submit tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers portal. Tips that lead to an arrest and indictment could qualify for up to $3,500, according to Norwood News.
The 46th Precinct is handling the investigation and, according to local reporting, no arrests had been announced at the time the NYPD released the video. Police have asked residents who recognize the people in the images to contact Crime Stoppers with any information that could help identify the suspects.
