A well-being check at a Wellesley home turned tragic Friday night when officers discovered two children dead inside, authorities said. Police responded to the house on Edgemoor Avenue around 9:30 p.m. and found the children, whose names and causes of death have not yet been released. Investigators said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no risk to the wider community.
State police and local detectives leading probe
The Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office, along with Wellesley Police, are handling the investigation into the deaths, according to WHDH. The Norfolk DA's office told the station that officers located the children during the well-being check at the Edgemoor Avenue residence.
Edgemoor Avenue appears on the town's official street map for Wellesley, which is maintained by local officials (Wellesley town map).
Medical examiner will determine cause
When deaths are unexplained or suspicious, the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner typically conducts autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death, working in coordination with prosecutors and forensic teams. Guidance from the state OCME also notes that autopsy reports in cases under the control of a district attorney's office may not be released until investigators have finished their work (state OCME guidance).
Community update
Authorities have repeated that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no active threat to the public, according to WHDH. Investigators have urged residents to avoid speculation while detectives continue their work and said additional information will be shared when it is available.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Wellesley police and the Norfolk District Attorney's Office have not released further details. Hoodline will update this post as officials provide new information.
