Seton Hill University is making a nine-figure bet on its Greensburg campus, rolling out a $110 million capital campaign to build a new athletics field house and renovate historic Sullivan Hall. The university says it has already pulled in roughly $96.3 million, putting the goal well within striking distance. The campaign doubles as both a major facilities upgrade for its Division II sports programs and a preservation project for one of Greensburg’s landmark buildings.
According to Pittsburgh Business Times, the public phase of the campaign will bankroll construction of a new indoor field house and a sweeping renovation of Sullivan Hall, which the outlet notes is approaching its 100th birthday. The report says Seton Hill has already raised about $96.3 million toward the $110 million target. University leaders are pitching the effort as a way to boost student recruitment while also preserving a key piece of campus and community history.
Field House Financing Already In Motion
The athletics side of the plan has been quietly advancing behind the scenes for months. In December 2025, the Latrobe Industrial Development Authority approved a $37.5 million bond issue tied to the field house project, and Seton Hill officials at the time floated the possibility of breaking ground as early as February, according to WPXI. The station reported that the planned facility would feature an indoor turf field, team locker rooms, and a dedicated training space for track and field athletes.
Sullivan Hall Restoration Has State Backing
Sullivan Hall has been on the renovation wish list for several years. In 2022, Seton Hill secured a $4 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant to support work on the building, the university’s news office noted. Campaign materials indicate that state money will be paired with private donations to pursue a more extensive restoration of Sullivan Hall while the university simultaneously upgrades its athletics complex.
Community Access And Local Economic Stakes
Seton Hill officials say the new field house will not be just for college athletes. They have indicated that the facility will be open to youth sports, high school games, and community groups, positioning it as a regional hub rather than a campus-only perk. Administrators also argue the project will reinforce the local economy; WPXI reported that Seton Hill estimates it generates about $194 million a year for Pennsylvania. University officials told the station that the IDA bond deal is a financing tool for the school, not a taxpayer-funded giveaway.
So far, neither Seton Hill’s materials nor early local coverage has pinned down a firm completion date for either the field house or the Sullivan Hall overhaul. The IDA’s action and prior planning documents outline a process of public hearings and additional financing steps before full construction can begin. Campaign leaders say they will keep working with donors for the remaining dollars needed to hit the $110 million mark and plan to share more detailed timelines and project updates as the public phase moves ahead.
