A stretch of Burstock Road on Columbus' southeast side turned into a crime scene Wednesday evening after a man was shot and left fighting for his life, according to police.
Officers were called to the 1500 block of Burstock Road, where they found an adult man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in critical condition. Police have not released his name and have not identified any suspects.
Detectives stayed on the block into the night, taping off the area, gathering evidence and speaking with neighbors as they tried to piece together what happened.
According to WBNS, Sgt. Joe Albert said the wounded man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The station reported that police did not immediately have details on what led up to the shooting or any possible suspect information.
Police Response And Past Violence On Burstock Road
Officers locked down the 1500 block while investigators worked the scene and canvassed the area. It is not the first time Burstock Road has drawn homicide detectives.
Columbus Division of Police press releases show prior deadly violence tied to the same stretch. A September 2024 homicide and a July 2025 update involving the 1400 to 1500 blocks of Burstock Road are documented in media releases from the Columbus Division of Police and the Columbus Division of Police.
What Officials Are Saying
Police have not released information about a possible motive or any suspects, and the investigation remains active, WBNS reported.
The shooting comes as city leaders and public-safety analysts have been pointing to declining violent-crime numbers across Columbus, even as questions linger about police staffing levels. Those broader trends were highlighted earlier this month in a report on crime plunging while police ranks shrink.
So far, no arrests have been announced and investigators have not given a timeline for when more information might be released. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the Burstock Road shooting to contact the Columbus Division of Police as the case moves forward.
